Uncovering Coronary Artery Disease in Black Men: Pathophysiology and Types

This is an audio blog of the following url: https://www.blackbarbershop.org/post/coronary-artery-disease-pathophysiology-in-black-men-types-causes-symptoms-stages

In this episode, we explore coronary artery disease (CAD) in Black men, focusing on its pathophysiology, types, causes, symptoms, and stages. We discuss how genetic predisposition and lifestyle factors, such as diets high in saturated fats and lack of physical activity, contribute to the development of CAD. Understanding the progression from endothelial dysfunction to atherosclerotic plaque formation is crucial for early detection and intervention. We also highlight the various manifestations of CAD, including stable and unstable angina, myocardial infarction, silent ischemia, and variant angina.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) remains a leading cause of death among Black men, driven by a combination of genetic predispositions, socioeconomic factors, and barriers to healthcare access. By linking an understanding of CAD’s stages and symptoms with resources tailored to Black men’s health, we can foster awareness, promote early intervention, and empower communities to address this critical health disparity.

Exposure to air pollution is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, including coronary artery disease (CAD), particularly among Black men. Implementing high-quality home air filtration systems can reduce indoor pollutants, potentially lowering the risk of CAD by improving overall heart health.
